Canadians will be heading to the voting booth today as the nation will decide who its next prime minister will be. The election race has been in a dead heat and virtual tie for much of the campaign, will incumbent and Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau facing off against Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer.
Trends have shown that healthcare, climate change, taxes, education, and legalizing cannabis are the most important issues among Canadian voters. While Scheer has been said to take a smaller stance on some of these issues, his campaign has gained steam since photos of Trudeau in black face surfaced a month ago, while the photos were taken when he was a teacher in 2001.
As Canada isn’t a two party system, other candidates including the Green Party’s Elizabeth May, the New Democratic Party’s Jagmeet Singh, and the Bloc Party’s Yves-Francois Blancet are also challenging to be prime minister. Polls will close at 8 PM today across Canada.
