Socialism, the new fashionable economic ideology that’s sweeping American millennials. In a Gallup poll, 45% of college millennials approve of the socialist ideology, and numbers have only gone up. Socialism is the economic ideology where the government takes over and regulates all industries and redistributes all wages equally.
Socialism is in many ways the opposite of democracy. In a democracy, everyone gets an equal opportunity but in socialism, it’s an equal outcome. Part of America’s identity is a democracy in addition to a republic, so socialism would already impede on the freedoms that we are guaranteed in the country. Furthermore, socialism infringes on our free society, as it disallows private corporations from becoming too powerful.
Big corporations such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Disney, and so much more, and these same four companies that I listed were all started in their parents’ garages. It should be an absolute freedom to start a basic business and be an entrepreneur, and blocking that right is blocking the American dream.
