Two days after the bombings in Sri Lanka, the investigation into it found the motivation for the attack. Although the suspect(s) haven’t been caught, the bombings were done by Islamic extremists with the intent of retaliating after the Christchurch mosque shooting, according to the country’s defense minister Ruwan Wijewardana.
The attacks, which have now killed up to 321 worshippers and residents in churches and hotels, has drawn a widespread investigation into who is responsible and why. Sri Lanka’s ministry of defense has linked the attacks with the National Tawheed Jamath, an Islamic extremist terrorist group within the island.
The Easter bombings were allegedly in response to the Christchurch mosque shootings, where over 50 worshippers were shot and killed and another 20 seriously injured by a white supremacist opening fire. The investigation into individual suspects for the bombings is still underway, with other countries now assisting.
