Early results into the 2019 Indonesia Presidential Election, which is today, show that Incumbent President Joko Widodo is favorite to win reelection over his longtime rival and former military strongman Prabowo Subianto. Early pools are going Widodo around 55% of the vote, with Subianto getting around 44% with the rest voting for a third party candidate.
Other early on polls have also given the Indonesian President a double-digit lead over his opponent, and Widodo has publicly disapproved of media polls in the past, too. Despite the election being today, results won’t become official until May 22, which is due in part to the over 17,000 islands making up Indonesia, and the 192 million eligible voters in the election.
In addition to voting for President, Indonesians also get to vote for Vice President, members of the House of Representatives, the Regional Representative Council, and their local city and district councils. Voting takes place over a six hour span, and spans a very diverse region.
