The midwest region surrounding Chicago is set to get buffeted by extreme wind chills and temperatures below freezing. Mail services will not deliver in six entire states, while only operating in a portion of four others. However, Chicago is seen by meteorologists as the “epicenter” of the cold.
Currently, the weather for Chicago is around -18˚F. Earlier reports suggested that the high for the temperature in Chicago would be 2˚F with a low of -27˚F. It won’t just be Chicago though, 212 million Americans, almost three-quarters of the entire population, will see below freezing temperatures throughout their day.
State offices and services in Chicago have been suspended over the storm. Public officials are warning of “instant frostbite” from staying in the cold for more than ten minutes; It has already been blamed with the deaths of two different people in Chicago. Officials are also advising to check on the elderly and frail if they need assistance.
