A dam collapse in southeastern Brazil has left over 58 dead and over 300 missing on Friday. Spokespeople for the state of where it happened, Minas Gerais, said that they have only identified 8 of those 58 killed.
Of the 300 missing, ABC News reports that 240 were employees of the nearby Vale Mining Company, who had employees around the area and operated the dam. Vale is the largest mining company in the country, and their employees were on their lunch break when the dam collapsed.
Despite the 300 missing, the country’s civil defense stated that they rescued 366 people from the wreckage. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) flew into Brazil yesterday to help the recovery act as well as search for survivors.
